Soccer Ball Billie
Book Two

Soccer Ball MumMrs. Footie was busy in the kitchen preparing Saturday lunch for Billie and Millie. It was two weeks since Billie (and Millie!) had decided that they were going to get fit and eat properly. They had both done very well - Billie had joined two football coaching classes after school and another on a Saturday morning, and Millie was learning ballet and disco dancing.

"Billie really needs proper football boots now," thought Mrs. Footie, "but they are SO expensive." She looked at the kitchen clock. "The children will be home soon, and I know Billie will be asking again when he can have his boots."

Soccer Ball MillieMeanwhile, Billie and Millie were dawdling home with their friends from their Saturday morning classes. "We'd better hurry up Millie, I'm going to a football match with Dad this afternoon," said Billie. "Alloo....." whispered a small voice. "What did you say Millie?" asked Bille. "Nothing, you're hearing things!" giggled Millie. "Alloo." "Millie, stop being silly, stop saying "Alloo," said Billie.

"I haven't said anything, stop saying I have" complained Millie. "Strange" thought Billie, looking around him. They were just passing the Charity Shop at the end of their road. "Alloo" again. Was the strange voice coming from the shop window? Millie had heard nothing.

Soccer Ball Billie"Millie, you run up to our house, I'll watch you go. Tell Mum I'm at the end of the road" said Billie. "OK, but hurry up" said Millie. "Alloo" - Billie peered into the Charity Shop window. Behind a tray with camels on it, and some strange artificial flowers in a green vase, Billie could see strings waving in the air.

Was there an electric fan somewhere causing the movement? Billie couldn't see one. "Come in" - that strange whispering voice again. In a daze, Billie walked into the shop.
