Whilst looking for an award for 'achievers', boys and girls who had attended courses regularly and progressed unselfishly, there was only one club name that I turned to - Newcastle United. I was coach during the famous 'Fairs Cup' era with great Geordie fans and the famous (never to be forgotten) victory in the Final against Ujpest Dozsa. So there was no hesitiation in naming this award 'THE MAGPIE AWARD'.

So far 34 children have been nominated for this prestigious honour.
