Safeguarding

All parents/guardians/carers are asked to take note of the following statement. Though every care is taken to safeguard children and young people, sports halls and playing fields are often open to other users.

We are concerned for the development of every child and and aim to provide a safe environment for all. It is the responsibility of each member of the coaching staff and all other helpers associated with Dave Smith Soccer Schools to prevent the physical, sexual or emotional abuse of children and young people, and to act appropriately if abuse is discovered or suspected or when good practice and guidelines are not being followed.

1. Plan the work of the school so as to minimise situations where the abuse of children may occur.
2. Be aware that there is a system whereby children may talk with an independent person.
3. Use supervision as a means of protecting children.
4. Know how to deal with the disclosure or discovery of abuse, and the importance of referring to others.
5. Know particular procedures where the alleged abuser is a coach.
6. Know particular procedures for activities at each individual venue.
7. Know the procedure for First Aid.
8. Know the procedure for fire safety.
9. Know the procedure for administering medication.
10. Follow proper procedures for appointing all coaches and helpers.

Any cause for concern should be raised with Dave Smith and/or the senior coach present immediately. It is NEVER right to be concerned but do nothing.
